FAQ
Q: How much does a typical system cost and when will I start to see a return on my investment?
A: Be prepared to spend more on a geothermal system versus a traditional system. The system will pay itself back based on the utility and other cost savings determined by system usage.
Q: How much space do I need to install a geothermal system?
A: Geothermal systems can be installed in a home of any size on almost any size lot. In rural areas we typically have more horizontal space to work with, which means installations are less expensive and simpler. Installing systems in smaller homes in urban areas is still possible though, we just utilize the vertical space better by putting the system under the driveway, house, etc.
Other installations may use areas you never even thought about. Lakes or ponds offer a very economical solution when available. Pioneer will help you explore all of your options and choose the one that best fits your needs, space and budget.
Q: I’ve heard geothermal systems can heat water as well. Do all systems do this?
A: Yes, by adding a desuperheater will allow a ground source heat exchanger to heat water using recovered heat. The bonus is the process will save you money on your water-heating bill.
Q: How do I determine the size of my system?
A: The system size can be determined by a Manual J Residential Load Calculation performed by a mechanical engineering firm. Click here to learn more.
Q: How can I find out about government incentives for geothermal systems?
A: See our list of resources.
